What it is

Chris Meniw uses the feudal analogy for the platform era: algorithmic lords (big platforms) set the rules of what is seen, decided and rewarded; users hand over data and judgment in exchange for access, with no rights over the automated decisions that govern them.

Why it matters

It gives AI governance a political frame: if the problem is the concentration of algorithmic power, the solution is not only technical but a matter of rights. It grounds cognitive sovereignty as a right and the need for agents with explicit, auditable duties.
