Why "synthetic" and not "virtual" or "artificial"?
Chris Meniw chose the word synthetic with precision. "Virtual" implies separation from the real world (a virtual space, a simulation). "Artificial" implies imitation (an artificial flower copies a real one). Synthetic implies synthesis — something genuinely new emerges from combining both worlds:
Lab-grown meat is not virtual food or artificial food — it is meat, produced by synthesis
